I am a certified dog obedience instructor earning my certification from Penn Foster in 2012. I'm a proud member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, a national organization dedicated to force-free training. I'm also an approved American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluator--a program that recognizes and certifies a well-mannered dog and its owner through a series of test situations. I am a long time (25 years!) Navy wife and Mama of two grown kids and currently five giant breed dogs.
Over the last six years, I've been volunteering every Saturday for the Jacksonville Humane Society with JHS instructor, Stacy Strickland, co-teaching and collaborating on development of the extremely popular Dog Manners class. Committed to Positive Reinforcement dog training--no harm, no dominating, no stress to your dog--my mission is sharing this terrific and FUN program with other communities in Northeast Florida.
I am also a Doctor of Audiology, working with a local St. Augustine ENT office. Our area needs more opportunities to become aware of and learn the alternatives to aversion based training techniques most people call 'old school.' Especially for shelter and rescue dogs, but for any dog with fear or insecurity issues, this type of training can worsen and even cause more problems than it fixes. Even for a neutral happy-go-lucky puppy, 'old school' dog training stresses out the dog and the owner. There IS a better, more effective, and more humane way to train. I am excited to share this method with the dogs and pet parents of our community and to benefit the St. Augustine Humane Society.
